Bal Masque

Les Liasons de l'Amour
Valentine's Day Fete
(scroll down to previous post)

Today, I'm participating in Bal Masque

We were given a template to make our own mask.
I started by cutting two sheets of cardstock, then
stamped my design and covered with glitter.

Then I filled the whole mask with glitter.
Notice: I will try something wild and different,
but it must still contain pink.  hehe!

Here are pics of my finished mask.

The mask is in honor of the Venetian Carnival, which
starts February 2nd and ends on Shrove Tuesday
(Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday.

The Venetian masks and costumes are worn by people
who often come from around the world to attend Carnival.

Venetian masks have a long history of protecting their wearer's
identity during promiscuous or decadent activities.

They also served as a way of keeping every citizen
on an equal playing field. Masked, a servant could
be mistaken for a nobleman, or vice versa.
With no faces, everyone had a voice.

Made for centuries in Venice, the masks were formed
from paper-mache and wildly decorated.

Venetian Carnival is a pageant and street
fair celebrating hedonism.
