saying good-bye to Sugar

I didn't grow up with dogs, never wanted a dog,
and truth be told, I didn't like dogs.

Sugar was the one who changed that for me.

There is a saying about dogs 'leaving paw prints on your heart'.
It's true.

If I could hold it together long enough, I would tell you
all the wonderful things about Sugar. Like how she would ring
the bells on the family room door when she needed to go potty.....

or how when she was younger, she loved her blankies....

or how she loved to go wading in the water....

how she loved her little sister Molly, and trained her
to be a good girl just like her....

or what an amazing, and loving companion she was.

But my heart is breaking right now, so I will just say,

good-bye Sugar.

I love you, and I will miss you.

mom

I don't think I've ever commented here before, so I don't know if hearing this from a stranger will help, but you have my heartfelt sympathy over the loss of your sweet Sugar.

I understand exactly what you are going through.

One month ago, our hearts were broken and for several days our lives were broken. Morning walks on the beach were just not the same without 14 year old Dorje.

Her favorite plant was the lantana that grew along our walk out to the beach. Each day she would stop for a taste. I planted some, but it never thrived. Last week I was watering the front garden and I saw that my lantana plant is big and blooming - Dorje is there with me in that plant.

We now have a puppy, a first for us, and are having fun playing with her and letting her fill the hole in our hearts.

My heart is saddened to read of your loss. May your memories of Sugar stay with you and bring you a smile. Our beloved "fur-children" really do love us unconditionally and are such dear companions. I know as I lost my Sasha BooBoo kitty after 18 years together. Blessings to you dear...

My heart cries for you, dear friend. And for the loss of your beloved Sugar. No matter how we try to 'prepare' ourselves, it isn't possible. The loss of a loved and adored member of the family is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you and I wish I could take away some of your pain. Know that Sugar was loved, that she loved you and that she will always be with you.

I'm sorry to hear that. But she had a good long life. And she was loved and well cared for. A lot of dogs don't get that. You did a wonderful job. And I just know you'll be giving another dog a beautiful life soon. The best way to honor your Sugar is by continuing to share your life and love with doggies. Take care of your heart for now. Sugar will be with you always.
hugs♥,
Caroline

I'm very sorry for your loss, Debi. Sugar was a wonderful companian for you and of course your heart is broken. She had a great time with you and I'm sure she knew that she was loved so much. We lost two of our cats within half a year and so I know how terrible you feel.
Sending a very big hug,
Julia

I'm so sorry Debi. It is so hard to have to give our loves up with age. Sugar looks like such a sweet girl and I can only imagine how much joy she brought to your family. I'm sure sorry for your loss.
I've had a lot of sweet dogs and I hate it when they get old and have to leave.

I'm so sad for you! While I don't consider myself a dog person either - I did grow up with Rex and was devastated when he was put to sleep. It's so hard - hope you're hanging in there.

Just happened on your blog and had to respond. Lost my 15year old terrier last summer so know how you feel. Not a day goes by without some memory of him. Although it will get less painful you will always have Sugar in your heart. I talk to my Cooper every day. Linda

Oh dear, so sorry to hear about Sugar. I often wonder why God didn't make our treasured pets have a longer life span. I know your heart is sooo breaking, boy do we understand! I do know she was one lucky dog to have you!
